Mediterranean Style Decor

Whether you’re decorating your first starter home or your dream, forever home, there are many design aesthetics to consider before you begin painting walls and purchasing decor. Are you a fan of Victorian design, French country, modern, vintage or Mediterranean style? It’s best to do a little research so you’re armed with the knowledge you need to start the hunt for the perfect pieces.

If you love the appeal of the colors of surf, sand and earth, then Mediterranean décor is perfect for you. Mediterranean style travels between Greece, Italy, France, Spain, and other countries on the fringe of the Mediterranean Sea, picking unique influences of each. Bold and striking in its appearance, it’s always elaborate without ever being overdone.

Warm colors - The Mediterranean palette draws from land and sea: cobalt blues, earthy terra-cottas, ochre yellows.
Large-scale furnishings - Mediterranean furniture has presence; chunky legs, sturdy bases, and broad tabletops.
Textured surfaces - Stucco is a signature, and Venetian plaster is a great alternative.
Tile - Used for roofing, flooring, walls, and more, tile is one of the hallmarks of Mediterranean decor. Cover walls in decorative tile mosaics, throughout a neutral kitchen backsplash or to line an archway.
Metals - Mix bronze, copper, wrought iron, and other deep-toned metals in light fixtures, railings and hardware.
Wall accents - While you may not actually be in Venice, Italy; Barcelona, Spain, or Naples, Greece; you can bring the sights of the Mediterranean coast to your home with mural panoramics. They make perfect accent pieces for any room in your home.
Outdoor living space - The Mediterranean is about enjoying life outside. Think heavy iron furniture, a splashing fountain and outdoor lanterns.

A home decorated in Mediterranean influences leaves you feeling like you’ve been transported to Southern Europe. Add warmth and color to your home with this popular interior design style.
